Description:
 

Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in the Antibody Discovery and Engineering group.

This group is responsible for antibody discovery and library construction.  The individual will work on phage antibody library construction, as well as the design of panning selections and screening strategies to discover, express, characterize and select therapeutic phage antibodies against a variety of targets.

The candidate will have a strong molecular biology background and some library construction experience. 

Excellent organizational and communication skills are required. This individual is expected to work in a team-oriented environment and have the ability to serve as a functional area representative within the project team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Function effectively as a part of cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in the construction of phage display libraries.
  • Participate in the design and execution of panning and screening strategies of various phage display libraries.
  • Design and perform assays that will enable the characterization and selection of desirable phage-derived antibodies against a variety of targets.
  • Perform high throughput DNA sequence analysis.
  • Maintain and organize vector and library stocks.
  • Perform small-scale antibody fragment production, purification, and biochemical characterization.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems in creative and effective ways.
  • Make detailed observations, compile and summarize data, prepare reports, and present conclusions at group, departmental, and project team meetings.
  • Document procedures and data in laboratory notebooks regularly, detailing experimental purpose/design/results.
  • Work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with XOMA's Policies and procedures.

Job Requirements:
Education and/or experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor's (B.A. or B.S.) or Masters (M.A. or M.S.) degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related scientific discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant research experience with a Bachelor's, or 3 years with a Master's, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous industry experience required.
  • Strong molecular biology background and some library construction experience are required.
  • Previous experience working with phage display libraries is desirable.
  • Experience with basic bioinformatics tools, particularly DNA sequence analysis.
  • Strong computer skills, which include the use of programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism, etc.) for data analysis and presentation
