Department: Preclinical Research & Development

Job Title: Group Leader/Director, Pharmacokinetics, E0822-A

Description:

Provide scientific and administrative direction to the Pharmacokinetics Department.  Design and supervise the conduct and interpretation of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics studies of XOMA products in animals.  Provide pharmacokinetic analysis and interpretation support to clinical studies.  Supervise scientists and managerial personnel in the implementation of pharmacokinetics studies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Establish overall objectives and coordinate activities of the Pharmacokinetics Department, so they are in line with company strategy.
  • Be involved in developing, modifying, and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may have company wide effect
  • Develop and administer budget and ensures budget is met.
  • Supervise staff in the conduct of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics studies required to support XOMA projects.
  • Provide support to Preclinical in statistical analyses.
  • Provide support to project teams and participate in strategies for product development
  • Provide strategic, data analysis and interpretation support for pharmacokinetics in clinical studies.
  • Participate in the identification of new product candidates
  • Coordinate and monitor external pharmacokinetics studies.
  • Train and supervise scientific and technical staff.
  • Prepare written and oral presentations on research projects.
  • Prepare reports and other documents for submission to domestic and international regulatory agencies.
  • Present study results at scientific meetings and publish results in scientific journals.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Review technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of current development
  • Other projects as assigned.
  • May provide hands on support in pharmacokinetics analysis and interpretation as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages the Pharmacokinetics Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetics and preclinical statistics.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities to scientists and subordinate managers in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, mentoring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Job Requirements:

Education and/or experience:

  • Ph.D. in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacology, Physiology, or related discipline with 6+ (group leader) or 9+ (director) relevant years experience.

Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Familiar with experimental pharmacokinetic designs, previous management experience, effective communication skills

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and documentation or procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and the general public.

Mathematical skills

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical demands

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands to handle, work at a video display terminal.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, or radiation or biohazardous waste. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
