Overview
XOMA is currently engaged in multiple active development projects across several therapeutic areas including inflammatory, autoimmune and infectious disease, and cancer. We develop both proprietary and partnered products using our extensive suite of antibody technologies. We are growing and advancing a rich pipeline of antibody therapeutics, and we have contributed to the development of three products that are currently marketed by Genentech and UCB, for which we received royalty payments of approximately $17 million in 2007.
Our pipeline of drug candidates includes XOMA 052, a paradigm-changing antibody for treatment of patients with Type 2 diabetes. We are currently evaluating XOMA 052 in two clinical studies of Type 2 diabetes patients for its potential to target key inflammatory pathways that contribute to the death and impairment of insulin-producing cells. We plan to advance XOMA 052 into additional clinical studies for the treatment of other inflammatory conditions, including acute gout and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and are evaluating its potential in cardiovascular disease.
In preclinical studies, XOMA 052 was well tolerated and demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in animal models of arthritis and Type 2 diabetes.
In addition to developing exciting proprietary antibody product candidates, our research teams have contributed to the development of approved antibody therapies. We have also contributed significantly to the development of HCD122, a monoclonal antibody to CD40 partnered with Novartis, and numerous other discovery and development projects.
