OVERALL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The ideal candidate is someone with a strong drug development background and direct experience at leading efforts from drug development to approval. In leading and directing program management activities for XOMA’s proprietary pipeline this candidate will have increased visibility and access to senior management. This position will have supervisory responsibility for up to two Project and Alliance Management (PAM) professionals and the ideal candidate will exercise sound judgment to ensure pipeline programs are managed appropriately from a strategic, fiscal, and operational perspective. The position requires exceptional communication, relationship and team building skills working within a matrix management environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Lead drug development efforts for XOMA’s proprietary pipeline from drug discovery, development to approval.
· Apply drug development knowledge to lead and direct program management activities for XOMA’s proprietary pipeline.
· Accountable for pipeline program management with respect to operational and strategic issues, program metrics, timelines and budgets by program.
· Facilitate and support internal pipeline initiatives by ensuring critical path focus, identifying key issues and communicating with executive staff for appropriate follow-up.
· Direct supervision of up to two Project and Alliance Management (PAM) professionals in the Pipeline Business unit.
· For partnered programs, lead in the joint governance process ensuring focus on key issues and upcoming deliverables. Measure, monitor and resolve in a timely manner challenges toward meeting these goals.
· Facilitate interactions between BD, legal, R&D, and finance, as needed.
· Working with legal and BD understand and communicate effectively contractual obligations to ensure compliance with such obligations.
· Build trust and maintain open and honest relationships through clear communication, alignment of goals and mutually acceptable solutions.
· Demonstrate and provide leadership in employing best practices.
OTHER DUTIES:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Education and/or experience:
· BA/BS in science or business; PhD desirable.
· Minimum of 15 years within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
· 6-10 years of program and alliance management experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
· Knowledge in drug discovery and product development process required and antibody experience preferred
· Direct experience in management of the product development process from IND filing through product approval.
· Demonstrated success managing multiple projects and/or drug portfolio activities.
· Experience with external project partnerships, outsourcing and alliance management.
· Experience fostering positive, open relationships with internal and external parties in a collaborative team environment
· Experience with pre-clinical activities, IND filings, manufacturing technology transfer strongly preferred.
· Demonstrated experience with project management software applications and tools including Microsoft Project, Powerpoint, Excel and Word.
· Background in diabetes and immunology a plus
