OVERALL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Primary responsibility of this individual is to design and implement cell based assays for use in antibody binding and functional screens. The successful candidate will serve as a core team member on project teams dedicated to the development of therapeutic antibodies, and manage the efforts of research associates for those projects in a matrix management format. The individual will also be expected to perform lab experiments to support those projects if needed.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
§         Design and implement target-specific assays for use in antibody screening and functional characterization for multiple ongoing and future projects including, but not restricted to, oncology and inflammation
§         Mentor research associates and scientists to function proactively on project teams technically, scientifically and strategically in a matrix management format
§         Represent the Cell and Functional Biology group on project teams by presenting data for and providing scientific direction to drug development efforts
§         Keep accurate and organized data in laboratory notebooks
§         Provide oral presentations of research findings at internal and external meetings
 
OTHER DUTIES:
§         Contribute to scientific journal publications; attend and present at scientific conferences and workshops
§         Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature and techniques related to Cell Biology, Immunology and antibody-based therapeutics
§         May serve as Project Champion in the development of antibodies for internal and/or collaboration targets
§         Comply with XOMA’s Policies and Procedures
 
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
§         No immediate supervisory responsibilities but managing individuals in the future is a possible growth opportunity
 
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Education and/or experience:
§         Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology, Immunology or related discipline with at least 6 years of relevant industrial experience
§         Strong background in cell and disease biology, particularly in the areas of inflammation and/or oncology
§         Prior project team participation and/or project team leadership for drug development programs is required

§         Prior management experience is highly desired
