Overview

XOMA’s platform technologies for the development, scale-up and manufacture of biological therapeutic compounds, particularly monoclonal antibodies, makes us an ideal partner to government entities to speed the advancement of defenses against emerging pathogens. We currently have ongoing contracts with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) to develop monoclonal antibody products to the botulinum neurotoxin produced by the bacterial Clostridium botulinum.

As part of our work on the Botulinum biodefense program, XOMA developed novel antibody formulations comprised of multiple antibodies, each one specific to a particular portion of the lethal neurotoxin.  XOMA also completed the production and filling of clinical supplies that are intended for use in the clinical development of the product.

We are also assessing how the expertise and capabilities used in our anti-botulinum programs can address other major biodefense needs in the U.S. and other countries.
