Bacterial Cell Expression

XOMA pioneered early methods for the bacterial secretion of antibody domains and has built a portfolio of intellectual property around this work covering the expression of properly folded antibodies, antibody fragments and fusion proteins in bacteria.

For manufacturing applications, XOMA's microbial expression system provides efficient, high-level expression of recombinant proteins in E. coli. Components include an expression vector containing the araB promoter, a companion plasmid containing the pelB secretion sequence, and a proprietary production strain.

XOMA has widely licensed its microbial expression technology in the biopharmaceutical industry for the production of recombinant proteins and antibody phage display applications.
